home gatherings

Let's be honest: it's a little awkward for anyone, even a mature believer, to enter into a brand new group of people who are talking about things you know little about.  For us as missional communities (25-40 people), the driving force of what we're after in our primary meeting time is behaving like a family in a HOME GATHERING.

  1. Low-barrier discussion about following Jesus: As close relationships are being formed in the HOME GATHERINGS, this time will also be the vehicle for intentional prayer for others in the group.
  2. Gathering around a meal: Great things happen around the dinner table and now more often than not, the most significant conversations & time for building relationships happen around a shared meal.

Our current HOME GATHERINGS meet on Sunday afternoon and Thursday evening.

  • Sunday Lunch | jordan & stephanie

Jordan and Stephanie have been married since 2010.  They met at Valparaiso University, where they both enjoyed Chapel, Christ College and spending time with friends.  Jordan enjoys tinkering with projects (he’s SURE he can fix just about anything…. with enough time and youtube videos).  The Director of Music at Covenant Academy (Cypress), Jordan enjoys the variety offered by worship arts ministry.  A big part of his Third Place community outreach is running MPEmusic, a local music studio offering lessons in a variety of instruments and styles.  Stephanie enjoys being involved with leading worship at Cypress Chapel.  Stephanie loves reading and travel.

Jordan and Stephanie are thankful parents, as their daughter, Alexandra (Lexi) was born Christmas Day 2016.  They are excited to open their home for fellowship to friends, visitors, and the students of MPEmusic.  One of their favorite verses is Luke 10:27.

  • Sunday Lunch | Zach & Amy

Zach and Amy grew up down the street from one another and began dating in college. Zach went to Texas A&M while Amy went to Sam Houston State University. They have been married since 2009. Zach and Amy have two daughters, Kahlan and Olivia.

Zach is a civil engineer at JCF Bridge & Concrete. Outside of work he enjoys baseball, board games, and nerdy TV shows. Amy teaches 4th grade math and science at Horne Elementary. Amy loves music. She volunteers with her school choir and plays keys in the praise band.

They find strength and courage in Romans 8:31-39. Zach and Amy enjoy hosting regular board game nights, Financial Peace University, and opening their home for fellowship.

  • Thursday night | Stephen & Natalie

Natalie & Stephen enjoy inviting friends & families into their regular rhythm of life, from heading to the local playground or enjoying a night sitting on their front porch drinking a cold beverage. Stephen is the planting pastor for CYPRESS CHAPEL and Natalie is his first and greatest source of encouragement and support. Natalie currently cares for their three kids at home, which is continuously bustling with activity. They are thankful that they are located in a spot where many are welcome to spend time together in their home and in the community.

They continue to center their lives around their family mission statement: Disciples of Jesus living a life of balance and integrity, empowering and encouraging others in their faith.
